During dinner tonight I almost choked on my food when the following conversation took place. Let me preface this by saying that Kyson looks almost exactly like Phil when he was younger. So we are assuming that he will look like Phil when he gets older.
Kyson: Dad why don't you have hair on one side of your head. Oh, I see, you just comb onto the one side.
Phil: (was chewing and had finished) I was born that way (he has high widow's peaks) and so were you Kyson (he pulls Kysons hair back to show the same hairline)
Me: So Kyson, when you get older you will look like Dad.
Kyson: DANG IT!
Me: Laughing hysterically with food in my mouth, trying to swallow before I seriously choke.
Phil: Giving me the evil eye
Kyson: What, what
Me: Still laughing, tears flowing
Phil: still giving me the evil eye
Kyson: but I don't want to be bald when I get older
Me: laughing even harder
Oh man that was funny, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! It was great! Thanks Kyson for another good laugh. Good thing Phil has a good since of humor.

7 random things
I've been tagged by Kristi, thanks Kristi. I don't usually do these, in fact, I'm still thinking about the 100 things about me post. But 7 interesting/quirky things, I can handle, especially the quirky. So here they are in to particular order.
#1 I don't like walking over grates in the sidewalk, I seriously think I will fall through
#2 I'm scared of the dark
#3 I am country-fied. I enjoy going to rodeos, especially the bull riding, and demolition derby's. I love horses, the smell of them, the feel of them, the sound of them, everything. My dream vehicle is a Ford F150 extended cab in either red or white. I like country music, my cowboy boots, etc.
#4 According to Kaden, I'm just weird, but he mentioned that I make a lot of sound affects when I talk and that I say "boom" really weird, Leslie confirmed this the other night. I hadn't noticed.
#5 I love, love, love to read and feel lost when I don't have a good book to read. I get so much joy out of purchasing a new book. I often peruse the book isle at Sam's and try not to buy too many books, it's a good day when I don't buy any. I seriously get heart palpitations when I buy a new book. I think the most books I've walked out with is 6. But in my defense, I'm buying for the kids as well. They all love to read and I like to have a good selection for them to choose from.
#6 A perfect day for me would be in the kitchen baking and cooking to my hearts content, uninterrupted with someone to clean up after me. I find baking especially therapeutic for me, usually when I make bread type items, yummy. This interest still surprises me because when we first got married Phil really thought I didn't cook or bake, man have things changed. He loves it and so do I. I just didn't know there was a Betty Crocker lying dormant for 26ish years.
#7 This has been more difficult than I originally thought, hmm. . . let's see what else is there. I'm sure many of my friends and family can just rattle of lots of quirky things about me. Oh, finally I have decided that I'm a Tom Boy/Girly Girl. I thought this was rather new news, but Phil was like "duh". I love to shop, get pedicure, dress up, etc. . . but then I also like fishing, playing basketball and football, riding 4-wheelers and I'm really wanting to go skeet shooting sometime soon. A rather interesting mix, but I like it.

The adventures never end
For some strange reason when I am gone, strange things happen at our house. Usually involving Phil and the younger three kids. One of the last times I was out for the night, Phil had the girls riding on the wagon behind the lawn tractor, holding some posts on. They were coming down from the garden and it had started to rain. Well, the tractor started to slide and so Phil put on the brakes and the little wagon jack knifed sending the girls and the polls careening down the hill. Before you gasp, like I did, just remember little wagon, little hill. But it was scary for the girls and I guess even more scary for Kyson who was following a long. He has this special bond with Becca (who is going by Kauri) and completely freaked out because he thought she was dead. Apparently he didn't care about Kambrie. I'm just glad I wasn't here. Nobody got hurt. . . but the way they described it as I walked in the house scared the pants off me. I told Phil he better start talking and quick because I was freaking out. So that was a few months ago.
Then last night I get another interesting story when I got home. Phil decided that he would send Kambrie, Kauri and Kyson up to the garden to pick the rest of the peppers. Just a reminder our garden is quite far from the house, up a path into the woods. . . and it was dark. They are braver than me because I wouldn't have done it. So Phil has one head lamp and two flash lights for them. So he works out a plan so they don't fight over the head lamp. Kambrie can wear it on the way up, Kyson can wear it up there, and Kauri and wear it on the way down. He entrusted the girls with clippers and Kyson with lighting up the plants for the girls. And it worked really well. They gathered a large amount and headed back down the path. About midway down the path there is an oak tree that has rotted out, I've always thought it would make a great home for some little critter. And some little critter, a raccoon, was in it last night as the kids came back down. Kambrie said it made a little growl noise so she shined her flashlight on it, and then screamed, "like a horror scream in a haunted castle." Then Kyson started crying. . . they pretended it wasn't there and continued bravely down the path. Then they heard another rustling sound and Kambrie said, "o.k. we can run now" and the "zoomed" down the path. Well in all the fun Kambrie left a pair of clippers in the garden and Phil wanted her to go get them tonight. So she put on the head lamp and started across the drive way (I then heard a loud long scream)her trusty head lamp had shone on a pair of eyes. So after the encounter last night, and then seeing the "eyes" tonight (it was just a neighborhood dog) there is no way she is going up in the dark. Kauri and Kyson made several attempts, but couldn't quite brave it either. I guess if Phil wants his clippers he will have to get them himself tonight, or wait until it is light for the kids to venture up there. I fully support them in their being scared to go up there in the dark, they already proved they are braver than I am!

Five Hours
That is how long Leslie and I spent at T.G.I. Fridays. And no, it wasn't because of bad service, we just have the ability to talk that long. We arrived around 6 p.m. and closed the place down. And this isn't the first time we have done that. I'm not sure if they appreciated us being there that long. . . but we did give the waiter a great tip, and it wasn't busy. So we had a great time catching up. It's been a few months! Leslie is fun to talk to and we usually cover a WIDE array of subjects. I don't think we have ever ran out of things to say. She is a great friend and I really enjoy the time I spend with her. I will always have a fond place in my heart for her. She is the ONLY person who has held my hair when I have been puking. . . now that is one great friend! The night ended a little strange when we had a close encounter with a police vehicle chasing a car who was going WAY too fast. . . but everything turned out o.k. Thanks Leslie for another fun night.

Family Pictures
Every year we like to send a picture out with our Christmas letter. So we decided to have Shelly help with that while she was here. We went to several different locations on and around our property. Here are the top five. Which one should we choose. I really like the sepia toned one, obviously since I put in on my blog. . . so everyone, give me your opinion about which one we should send out, 1-5. Thanks. Oh, our cat is in a couple of the pictures, Kambrie thinks that represents our ENTIRE family.
Fun Weekend
Wow, I can't believe what a fun busy weekend we had. It was great! The Johnston's arrived Thurs. night about 9 p.m. and we pretty much played until they left Sat. about 6:30 p.m. The kids all have so much fun with their kids. They all have a friend close to their age. . . so they just play, play, play.
Friday morning we got up, ate breakfast and the kids played more. Shelly and I went out for some girl time, shopping, met the husbands for lunch, then a movie. After all that fun, we carted the kids different places. The girls had a birthday party (Megan was able to join them), Kaden was going out to dinner with his youth leaders (he earned a stake dinner by giving a very detailed report about conference), Dusty went with him. Shelly and I dropped by Wal-mart to pick up light bulbs and ingredients for Peaches and Cream cheese pie. Rich had been busy the entire time they were here installing lights and hanging a mirror and fixing a door, just to name a few. So we needed more light bulbs and the pie is his favorite, so I thought he had earned at least that much. A friend of ours was celebrating his 40th b-day, so we went to that too. It was a busy run around night. Phil and Rich then went to a late movie while Shelly and I put the kids to bed. Then she and I watched another movie. It was midnight again before I got to bed.
Saturday we ate a late breakfast and just spent a good portion of the morning in the kitchen. I love days like that. I really like making food for my friends and talking to them at the same time. It was fun. Shelly made a yummy apple crisp from some apples our neighbors gave us. Oh, we ate ALOT of food this weekend. YUMMY. So then we had a late lunch and just enjoyed the rest of the afternoon before our friends left. Time always seems to go by so fast when they are here. I guess that means we are having lots of fun.
The kids enjoyed painting little pumpkins and playing outside a lot. Shelly took our pictures too. I'll put those on the different post. So all in all it was a GREAT weekend.

Tweites
The kids had Thurs. and Fri. off from school. . . so I thought it would be fun to take them to Tweites Pumpkin patch. It's been quite a few years since we have taken them there, in fact, this would be Kyson's first time. So after not a lot of sleep (YW sleepover on Wed.), and getting the house clean and ready for our friends to come. . . we headed to Tweites. Kaden came up with other plans. . . I guess 13 years old really wouldn't find this activity a ton of fun.
It was a perfect fall day to spend outside. We got there about 1 p.m. and stayed until about 5:30 p.m. Needless to say I was very tired, but we all had a great time. I tried to do the Mad Hop with the kids, but that didn't work very well. I was pretty sore the next day, yes I'm a wimp. After we arrived home I plopped on the couch and didn't move for about two hours. I squeezed in a little nap and felt rejuvenated by the time our friends arrived. The Johnstons, who used to live here, came for the long weekend. It was about midnight before I got to bed.

Every family room needs one of these
This huge saw lived in our family room for several days. Apparently when you get a new saw, you put it together in the family room and leave it there for all to admire for a few days. It has now found a new home (I really don't know where). Both Phil and Kaden are very excited about this saw, I'm not sure why, hopefully I'll figure that out soon.

Hay Hauling and other Wyoming stuff
Just a glimpse into my brothers life in Wyoming. For years he has hauled hay to different feed grounds for the Fish & Game. This is a huge job and he works very hard. Usually up at 5 a.m., not home until dinner. He starts early summer and stops pretty much when the snow flies. He has his own trucks and tractors and gets to deal with all the frustrations that break downs bring. He hauls to many different locations, some easy, some tricky. These pictures show some of the trickiness, in my opinion. But someone as skilled as him probably doesn't think so.
And then when he isn't hauling hay, he takes out his other big pieces of equipment like backhoe, belly dump, etc. and builds roads. Some of the roads he builds are on terrain that I wouldn't drive on, much less use big equipment on that could get tippy. But after he has worked his magic, there is a beautiful safe road to drive on. I think he is pretty awesome.

Kaden's personal record from his meet last night. He has done really well. One more meet next week at the same coarse. He is hoping to do even better. I'm such a wimp, I was really tired (and cold) from just jogging around the coarse a little bit to see him run at different places. He has been a great example to me of determination.

Cross Country and the kids run

Kaden racing against his good friend Josh. Josh beat him again, but there are a few meets left this year. . . so who knows. Kaden would love to beat him at least once. I love this picture.
Kaden finishing the race. It was suppose to be a 5k but they had to change the route a bit so it was longer, he was dying! But he still did great. I'm so proud of how well he has done with Cross Country. He has really enjoyed it (he must not have many of my genes), and wants to do it again next year.
After the high school teams ran, they had a 1 mile kids run and the rest of the kids wanted to do it. I think they are crazy, but I don't say that. I have always hated running, but if they want to do it, more power to them. I will support their craziness.
All of the kids lined up and ready to run. Kyson really didn't know what was in store for him. Poor kid. The girls actually know the other two. One is in their class at school and the other is on their soccer team. Which after running a mile, they went strait to soccer practice. They were very tired that night.

The wedding
The main reason I went to Arizona was to attend my cousin's wedding. I spent the first few days with MaryAnn and Teresa, then Fri. afternoon, Sat. and most of Sun. in Fountain Hills with my birth dads side of the family. They are absolutely wonderful and it is always great to spend time with them.
It was a busy time, but lots of fun and I met a lot of very nice people. Friday night they had the grooms dinner at this fun steak house. The steak was great, the company even better. It had been a little over four years since I had spent time some of the family, so it was great to have time to catch up.
Saturday was a pretty mellow day. . . for me, not the bride and her family. We enjoyed a nice lunch (Renee (aunt), Ruby (grandma) and me) at a fun little restaurant near Ruby's house. Then we just relaxed until it was time to get ready for the wedding. It was a hot time of year, so they were worried about it being too hot during the wedding (it was outside), but a storm rolled in just as the wedding was starting and cooled things off. In fact they had to hurry a bit and didn't get as many pictures outside because it started to rain. But it was still beautiful. Thankfully the reception was inside.

On Sunday we all met at Lynn's house and had a great lunch before everyone left. Then I returned to MaryAnn's and that is when we went to visit Theron and Kim. It was a wonderful trip and I had such a great time.

Just had to do this and Mesa highlight
(Don't kill me MaryAnn)
When I was going through these pictures, I was just dying from laughter. MaryAnn was the funnest roommate anyone could ever have. This is just a few highlights of just how funny she is. My favorite picture is where she was jumping on her bed and I captured her mid-air. Love it. Also, in her slip cleaning the kitchen. It wasn't a rare thing for her to run around in her slip, usually on Sunday. Fun memories. And we keep creating more. We had a great time in AZ. We usually laugh more than anything.
Highlights of my time in Mesa are:
- BBQ with MaryAnn and Teresa's families. I really appreciate them taking the time to get together while I was in town.
- Pedicure with MaryAnn
- Having lunch with Teresa and MaryAnn, chocolate nachos were the best!
- Shopping with MaryAnn and Teresa.
- More shopping with MaryAnn.
- Going to the movie Ghost Town with MaryAnn and eating chocolate, popcorn and diet coke for dinner.
- Late night chats with MaryAnn
- Lunch at Mimi's Cafe with MaryAnn. So yummy!
- Lots of time catching up.
Then and Now Part 2
Another great friend I made at college is Theron. We met in 1987 also, just as school was starting. I kinda dated his roommate, and even went on a double date with Theron and his then fiancee and me and Aaron (his roommate). From then on Theron was a friendly face as I struggled to find my way around Ricks and learn how to juggle everything. We became great friends and I knew I could rely on him if I ever needed anything. He had a truck and I was car-less, so there were many times and I called him to take me here and there. His roommates and my roommates pulled a few pranks on each other. Theron, MaryAnn and I hung out a lot the 1st semester of our second year. We had some classes together and would help each other. I remember a computer class we had together and I had the keyboard on my lap for some reason, well, it fell on a hard floor in the middle of class. I was dying of embarrassment and Theron was dying laughing. Not helping, just laughing!
Just hanging out, that is what we did best.
This is the first time we had seen each other since 1989. It was great to catch up with him and Kim. He dated her at Ricks and I got to be friends with her too. We had so much fun talking about the old days and learning about their life now. I love the fact that we have remained friends all these years.

Then and Now Part 1
The end of August 1987 MaryAnn and I met. . . and we are still friends 21 years later!
I know that we had more fun at college than we studied. And this was the big hair days, can you tell.
If it is possible, she was/is more goofy than I was/am. I think that is why we get a long so well, we are both a little quirky.

This is when I visited her in Hawaii in 1990. She was just barely pregnant and not feeling well, but did a great job showing me around and having fun. What a friend.
Then there is Teresa. I didn't live with Teresa, but we had a lot of the same classes so we spent a lot of time together during the day. She always did a great job keeping me motivated to get things done. Always cheerful. We had a lot of fun too, especially when we went dancing. I had a great time in Arizona with her and MaryAnn. They live right by each other, in fact, they can see each other from their back yards!
A triple date that MaryAnn, Teresa and I went on the fall of 1988. It was a girls choice dance. Dang, I should have scanned in that dance picture, talk about big hair! Teresa took Steve, they eventually got married.
I know that we had more fun at college than we studied. And this was the big hair days, can you tell.
